Mormon Identity

Episode 22:  Effective Gospel Learning

Episode 22

Robert Millet and Daniel Judd, professor of ancient scripture at BYU, talk about effective gospel learning—how to become more serious gospel scholars. President Hugh B. Brown said that he was impressed when a man could say, “I know the gospel is true,” yet he wanted to ask, “But sir, do you know the gospel?” Brothers Millet and Judd discuss the necessity of “[obtaining the] word” (D&C 11:21) through studying the scriptures and “the best books” (D&C 88:118). Faith is identified as a complement to studying, not a substitute. They also point out the benefit of giving the Lord equal time in terms of the material you read.
